Story by: Adam Mckay & David Sirota
Produced By: Adam McKay, p.g.a. & Kevin Messick, p.g.a.
Director of Photography: Linus Sandgren, ASC, FSF
Production Designer: Clayton Hartley

Costume Designer: Susan Matheson
Music by: Nicholas Britell
Cast:  Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Rob Morgan, Jonah Hill, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perlman, Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi, Himesh Patel, Melanie Lynskey, Michael Chiklis, Tomer Sisley with Cate Blanchett and Meryl Streep

Synopsis:

Kate Dibiasky (Jennifer Lawrence), an astronomy grad student, and her professor Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) make an astounding discovery of a comet orbiting within the solar system. The problem — it’s on a direct collision course with Earth. The other problem? No one really seems to care. Turns out warning mankind about a planet-killer the size of Mount Everest is an inconvenient fact to navigate. With the help of Dr. Oglethorpe (Rob Morgan), Kate and Randall embark on a media tour that takes them from the office of an  indifferent  President Orlean (Meryl Streep) and her sycophantic son and Chief of Staff, Jason (Jonah Hill), to the airwaves of The Daily Rip, an upbeat morning show hosted by Brie (Cate Blanchett) and Jack (Tyler Perry). With only six months until the comet makes impact, managing the 24-hour news cycle and gaining the attention of the social media obsessed public before it’s too late proves shockingly comical — what will it take to get the world to just look up?!

DON’T LOOK UP is written and directed by Academy Award winner Adam McKay (The Big Short) and also stars Mark Rylance, Ron Perlman, Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi (aka Kid Cudi), Himesh Patel, Melanie Lynskey, Michael Chiklis and Tomer Sisley.

Witchercon Event Reveals Many Surprises & Exclusive Content to “The Witcher” True Fans

wi3j0401-copy

Today, Netflix and CDPR partnered to host the first-ever WitcherCon event.

Streamed globally via YouTube and Twitch, the event featured a number of interactive panels with The Witcher talent including Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra, Freya Allan, Mimî M Khayisa, Paul Bullion, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, and Declan de Barra.

As well as panels, the event included special short-form content, musical interludes, and a host of exclusive surprises and never-before-seen insights from The Witcher live-action series and forthcoming anime feature.witchercon-still-7-copy

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich on the relationship between Geralt and Ciri:

“At the end of Season 1, we have what I think is one of the sorts of most emotional scenes that we’ve done, which is Geralt and Ciri finding each other after they’ve both been searching all season… And it seems like we’ve got a father figure and daughter figure, and everything’s going to be perfect at that point, except for they’ve never met. And so it was really fun to start Season 2 thinking about, well, they’re not a family yet. How do they grow to be one? What do you do if you are a person like Geralt, who has sworn he doesn’t need anyone in the world whatsoever? And then he’s presented with a girl who is now solely in his care. And we have Ciri, who’s used to being under the care of people but has basically been running from everyone for an entire season and now being told that this person is going to take care of you. And so it was really fun to start Season 2 kind of them a little uncertain about how to be with each other, and they have to really grow into that. We wanted to make sure that felt like an authentic relationship, that they weren’t just bonded at the very beginning.”wi2j0480-copy

Freya Allan on if we are going to see Ciri in training sequences this season:

“[Training] was one of the things I was most excited about for Season 2 because I love doing all that. I love the stunt department. We have the best people involved, and they’re so much fun and get the best out of you. But yes, Ciri begins training and it actually becomes one of her main kinds of drives. She’s very determined, and she really wants to become a great fighter and become a Witcher.”wi2j0420-copy

Anya Chalotra on her favorite things about her character Yennefer:

“I’d have to say, where there’s a will, there’s a way with her. She is a survivor, and I love that about her. That would be my favorite. But there are lots, there are many traits I love. We’ve become quite similar. We form each other, I think.”

Henry Cavill on the journey of his character Geralt of Rivia:

“I played the Season One way deliberately, which was him out in the wilds and without the opportunity for vast swathes of dialogue. I thought it best to be the man who says less because that seems like he’s thinking more. And that was the intention with that. But once you get into a scenario with Cirilla, and the Witchers and his home space and with those people who he already knows, I was of the opinion that you had to let him be verbose and be philosophical and speak more and be intellectual, because that’s what he is. He’s not just a big old white-haired brute.”wi3j0044-copy

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich on new characters to Season 2:

“There are so many characters that we’re introducing in Season 2. We are getting to see Dijkstra for the first time and sort of the Redanian Kingdoms. I know a lot of fans are excited to meet Philippa for the first time, Codringher and Fenn, Rience, Nenneke. There are so many, but I would have to say Vesemir is the one I’m looking most forward to our audience meeting. Vesemir is so integral to the story that we’re telling this season. Obviously, we’re returning to Kaer Morhen for the first time, and in a season that is about Geralt becoming a father to Ciri, it felt so important to meet who his father figure was. And you end up with this multigenerational story because Vesemir and Ciri have a story as well, and it does start to feel like, “Oh, all of these people are meant to be interacting and learning from each other and fighting with each other,”

Sharing ‘Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb’ with Members Around the World

pasted-image-0

By James Tovell – Director, ‘Secret of the Saqqara Tomb’

Like so many others, I have always been fascinated by ancient Egyptian history and culture. So it was an incredible privilege to have been given the opportunity to go to Saqqara, Egypt to film “Secrets of The Saqqara Tomb”. In approaching the film I was surprised to discover how much we still don’t know about such an extraordinary and important civilization.

Capturing the excavation of Wahtye’s 4500-year-old tomb and the exploration of the surrounding area was a huge challenge for everyone involved in this mission,  which turned into an epic and historic adventure that exceeded any expectations we may have had. There’s no denying that we were extremely fortunate from the start of the adventure until the end. Often in archaeology, you labor for weeks to find nothing at all. But with this mission, there was a new jaw-dropping discovery happening seemingly every 30 seconds! So we were incredibly fortunate to be on hand to capture those moments and share those discoveries with the world.

secrets_of_the_saqqara_tomb_00_23_12_02-copyFinding a window into a whole other world

At the heart of the film is the excavation of the tomb of an ancient Egyptian high priest, which transports the audience back through the millennia, providing a unique and unprecedented window into the lives – and deaths – of one man and his family more than 4400 years ago. Alongside this, we witnessed the exploration of the wider ancient necropolis that surrounds the tomb, where Egyptians buried their dead over thousands of years. It was an adventurous journey through which we were able to explore an extraordinary array of ancient treasures, including numerous shafts filled with mummified animals, human mummies still inside their highly decorated coffins, funerary artifacts including a rare complete senet set (board game), and more than three thousand other stunning rare artifacts from the Old, and New Kingdoms, and the Late Period. Which took viewers on a stunning visual journey through almost all of ancient Egyptian history.

pasted-image-0-1The discovery of the first mummified lion cub ever

For me personally, the standout experience amongst the many unforgettable moments was captured on camera the moment of discovery of the first mummified lion cub ever discovered – a find which made headlines around the world. Watching it emerge from the choking dust of a pile of ancient cat mummies at the bottom of an 11-meter deep shaft is an experience I will never forget, and as Dr. Salima Ikram, Professor of Egyptology at The American University in Cairo called it “A once in a lifetime discovery, that changes the way we think about ancient Egyptian history, culture, economy, and religious practice.”

secrets_of_the_saqqara_tomb_01_43_07_06Uncovering an ancient illness

The excavation of Wahtye’s tomb itself was a mammoth undertaking and another highlight when the archaeologists eventually discovered the skeletal remains of the high priest himself and his entire family. Forensic analysis of the bones by Dr. Amira Shaheen Professor of Rheumatology, Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University revealed bone distensions, which she believes “indicate that the whole family may have died from a disease or epidemic, most likely malaria.” A theory that, if it can be proven, will be the earliest documented case of malaria in history, by more than 1000 years.

secrets_of_the_saqqara_tomb_00_14_00_05-copyLearning the secrets of the team behind the dig

One of the other great joys of making this film was having the opportunity to showcase the skill and dedication of the hugely talented all-Egyptian team, led by Egyptologists Dr. Mohammed Mohammed Yousef and Dr. Sabry Farag.  Hearing them share their stories, and describe their roles – often in Arabic – from the excavation director to the anthropologist working on skeletal reassembly, to the foreman of the workers, and the diggers themselves – offers a truly unique and perhaps overdue perspective on Egyptology.

pasted-image-0-2Hidden treasure under the sand dug by an Egyptian team

Witnessing the pride and passion of the team as they piece together the secrets of their own ancestors, takes us on an astonishing and surprisingly emotional journey into both present and past, to ultimately reveal what are, in the words of the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Dr. Mustafa Waziri, “Egypt’s most significant findings in almost 50 years”.

secrets_of_the_saqqara_tomb_00_01_32_08Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb: Egyptians continue to inspire the world

All of these experiences and the amazing discoveries that were made have of course become all the more rewarding now that so many Netflix members have come along with us on this journey. In its first four weeks, 22 million households around the world chose to watch Secret of the Saqqara Tomb. It now ranks among the top 5 documentary films in Netflix history. We’re extremely grateful to all those who have watched the film, and thrilled that so many people have found something to enjoy, from those learning about ancient Egypt for the first time to those familiar with this world who were able to learn or experience something new.
