As we saluted the A-listers on the purple carpet, we welcomed a night that was filled with an array of exciting series of events with the award ceremony.
Joy Awards has finally landed in beautiful Riyadh along with a big list of A-list celebrities from The Cordova Comet; Mel Gibson and the life of ‘Modern Family’; Sofia Vergara to the Queen of Arab Pop; Nancy Ajram.
Hosted by Wissam Breidy and Valerie Abuchakra, the annual event was held at Boulevard and aims to honor the best of the best within the Arab film, music and television industry. Also honored on stage last night was Moroccan football player Achraf Hakimi after making us all proud during the World Cup 2022.
Saturday nights are the best, are they not?
Egyptian singer Angham was honored with the Most Favorite Female Artist award, beating nominees Elissa, Nancy, and Assala. She said, “Today is a beautiful day,” she said at the podium. “I am in a country that I love and which is full of family, friends and fans who love me. I really can’t thank them enough.”
Abdul Majeed Abdullah won the Most Favorite Male Artist against other remarkable artists including Rashed Al Majid, Amr Diab and Majid Almohandis.
Nadine Nassib Njeim was honoured ‘ Favourite Actress Award. She ended her speech by saying, “If you focus on work and realise that success will one day come to you, and another day to others, then you will have peace of mind and have greater confidence in yourself.”
Organized by the Entertainment Authority and broadcasted live on MBC and Shahid and taking place at The Boulevard’s Baker Al Sheddi Theatre, The Joy Awards 2023 housed an unlimited number of artists who were honoured on stage for their hard work that surely paid off.
Calling Riyadh home now, Model Georgina Rodriguez shined the purple carpet as she walked through with her gown and completed the look with a veil. She turned heads as she walked down the carpet and grabbed the attention of everyone in the crowd as she announced the winner in the sports’ category on stage.
Who is a huge fan of Modern Family? We are! We also spotted the beautiful Colombian actress, Sofia Vergara who was also honored as ‘Personality of the Year’. Not only did we see Sofia at the Joy Awards, we also got a glimpse of them at the Riyadh All-Star XI vs Paris Saint-Germain match.
For the Honorary Entertainment Makers award, the American/Australian Director and Actor Mel Gibson was also honored where he also walked us through his journey in success in show business saying, “I remembered while I was flying in the air that I had to land well,” he said. “I like to keep that advice in my career in that the only thing I have to be is not boring. So long as I land well, I am happy.” he explained as his memory went back to his childhood incident.
American Director Michael Bay was also awarded the Honorary Entertainment Makers award. The famous director has created out favorite projects including Pearl Harbour, 2001’s Armageddon and 2019’s 6 Underground. He also walked us through dreams throughout his childhood “As a kid, I wanted to dream for a living. I watched movies on the big screen with my parents in Hollywood and I remembered how the movies would glow on my dad’s face and how they made him laugh in the theater,” he said.
What else? Other occurrences that took place were the awarding of La Casa De Papel actress Esther Acebo, and live performances by Nancy Ajram, Cairokee, Ahmed Saad and Rahma Riad, to many more. The surprise performance of the night was the famous Tik Tok song, ‘Calm Down’ by Rema.
Towards the end of the ceremony, a heartwarming performance touched us as they hosted on the screen all the remarkable legendary artists that we have lost this year including Ihsan AlMonzer, and more.
