Where traditional and modern lifestyles intertwine in the fun-filled desert
The magical view of white tents covering the entire desert of Sakhir can only be witnessed annually in this season between the months of November and March. Driving through it in the daytime, you witness a whole range of communities. Children laugh, run and play, some on bouncy castles while others in their camps’ playgrounds. Young and old adventurers race through the desert on their quad bikes exploring the ups and downs of sandy plains. Camel riders squeal in a rush of thrilling delight as their mounts carry them up so high, swiftly but gracefully. Company employees bond over team-building exercises and wait patiently for the grill to finally serve up dinner.
As the sun begins to set, the horizon is painted beautifully with huge swaths of orange, blue and purple. Campers prepare for an evening of barbecue and campfire fun as firewood is kindled and barbecue stations are set up. Families bundle up and huddle around warm campfires, roasting marshmallows, sipping traditional karak tea and freshly brewed Arabic coffee and listening intently to the elderly telling tales of the past.
There are a number of already set-up campsites all around Sakhir that you can book with a simple reservation. Renting a campsite averages BD 70 on weekdays and BD 120 on weekends. They are fully equipped with modern fixings such as:
- Living room tent with TV and satellite dish
- Sleeping tent

Whether you’re there for a company event with colleagues or a relaxing weekend with family and friends, there are countless entertaining things to do in Sakhir. Just make sure to dress warm!
