Why you should take up Pilates this summer.
The practice of Pilates was first created by Joseph Hubertus Pilates, who came up with the idea based on his knowledge of different fitness styles such as gymnastics and yoga and developed exercises that would strengthen mind and body through mental control, breathing and relaxation.
Pilates focuses on breathing, the correct posture of the body and the core deep muscles of the abdomen, back and hips.

The benefits of this workout are very comprehensive and wonderful and include toning muscles, correcting bad posture, elasticity, coordination and getting rid of abdomen fat quickly. Other benefits we should highlight are:
- Practicing concentration on your movements and breathing control helps eliminate stress and improve your mood.
- The deep breathing that you learn during practice will vastly improve your sleeping habits.
- The more Pilates you do, the better posture you gain and the more confidence you have with your own body.
Classes
For any Pilates class, you need a spacious room that is well-lit, comfortable clothes and a mat. Some people like to wear socks but I personally feel more comfortable working out barefoot.
The first few classes usually start with some gentle warming movements, breathing control exercises and correctly aligning your body. Then you’ll move onto the basic exercises that will be the core of every session, helping you gradually gain confidence and elasticity with each class.
In your first classes, you may not have great flexibility, but don’t give up! Over time you’ll see progress and become much more aware of your body and happy with the changes that happen.
As you progress, different accessories, advanced exercises and even cardio workouts will be introduced to the class to make it more intense.
Who’s Pilates for?
Those who wish to tone, gain elasticity, lose fat and strengthen abdomen and, above all else, correct body posture. It’s especially useful for pregnant women.

This place really needs to rename themselves to Big Breakfast because that’s what you get every time you come here! Sure, they’ve got the atmosphere and service just right, but it’s the size of their dishes that keep you coming back. Not to mention that you can customize any aspect of the order to just how you like it, and forget eating at home ever again! Their Egg Benedict Flo dish, with its Hollandaise sauce and English muffins, is just the classic experience and can’t be passed up.
Such a great addition to Sharqiya breakfast places. The king of pastries, you’ll also find the best baked falafel wrap (in brown bread too just in case you’re trying to ease the guilt of all those pastries you just had).
Vicoli is one of those rare places that just exude peace and love. Start your day happy with the right atmosphere and the best pancakes. If you like kicking off your sugar high right from the get go, well you can’t do better than their Kinder Pancakes. Light and fluffy and sweet, this is one of those dishes we recommend NOT sharing with anyone else. Best of all? It’s served all day for you late-starters.
Looking for a more unique start to your day? Check out Ble Café with their awesome scrambled eggs that are served with crunchy puff pastry instead of toast, melted cheese and topped off with crunchy chips instead of hash browns. So good!
Eydaam is where you go for your traditional fix served in a modern way. You have to try their traditional Kuwaiti dish, Khoboz Orouk, which is basically deep-fried vegetables with eggs (modernized by being poached). Grab a side of rocket salad with feta cheese and balsamic dressing on the side and you’re ready to start your day.
A common piece of advice about grocery shopping is never to shop hungry. Well, with Tuxedo conveniently located next to Carrefour, you can do just that! Get their Mexican Frittata, which is like having an omelet but four times as tasty. Fluffy and light and just the right mix of spices and flavors.
For each time you want to try something new, you’ll have those moments when you want something nice and traditional. Dallat Alfaris has you covered with their Traditional Breakfast, served every day with all the goodies that make you feel right at home. Their breakfast for two comes with drinks included and is one of the best breakfast deals you’ll find around town.
If you’ve ever eaten here before, you’ll know they love to present their food like art. Their freshly baked flat bread is no exception and we especially love the falafel one, with its fresh rocket leaves and yummy tahini sauce.
Order: Uptown Club Sandwich
This is primo lunch territory. Who said that you can’t be creative with kebabs; these ones are filled with melted cheese! Ah, this sandwich has everything going just right. Filling and delicious, blink and the whole sandwich will be gone in a flash.
This café always raises the bar in yummy dishes, making it a de-facto winner for family lunches or dinners. Their Paprika chicken with slices of roasted potato and avocado is the perfect choice for any occasion. And, if you are looking for fresh flavor with a bite, go for their pesto chicken sandwich that comes with fresh tomatoes and rocket leaves.
Breakfast all day? Yay! You must try their Spin Rep sandwich: an opulent omelet combined with rostered red peppers, all inside a crispy, buttered, pan-fried cheesy bread. Prepare to be knocked off your feet.
Are you a person who can’t resist ordering Caesar salad in every restaurant? Well, now you can have that in a sandwich for breakfast! Roasted chicken breast, iceberg lettuce, parmesan cheese and Caesar dressing, all between two fat pieces of cereal bread. Your salad-sandwich hybrid is complete.

Awesome spot where you can create your own sandwich the way you like it. Perfect place for those who like to have light meals. Of special note is their chicken fajitas which are juicy and tender and their Philly cheesesteak which is wonderfully spiced and seasoned.
Looking for that homemade taste just like mom used to make? Step into Uptown966 and warm yourself up from the winter weather with their cozy pudding cake. Oh, and don’t forget the vanilla ice cream and extra helping of caramel sauce on the side. Shh, we won’t tell if you don’t.
Decorated with Islamic patterns and marble tables, Maltoot is where you can find the perfect mix between authentic tradition and modern atmosphere. Their pudding will warm you up with a spongy texture and a hit of crunch, dripping with a delicious homemade toffee sauce.
You do know that Café Bateel opened, right? Well, make sure to pass by and try their famous date pudding with homemade frozen yogurt. We recommend enjoying it with their top-notch Arabic coffee; it’s a match made in heaven.
