Your new go-to creative space: Hayy Jameel

The all new Hayy Jameel opens its doors to all creatives.

With more than 20 years in the making, Hayy Jameel is an exciting multidisciplinary project and experience by Art Jameel, that will be dedicated to providing both a platform for artists and a learning center artistic scene in Jeddah. It will encompass the whole creative community coming together to highlight global and universal themes through art. The word ‘Hayy’ means neighborhood in Arabic, which alludes to the collective and inclusive nature of Hayy Jameel, with its intention to be the home for artists of many different disciplines.263221982_948027642788439_7257564241662794412_n

Their opening season, which is now available to the public from December 6, 2021, to April 30, 2022, includes a variety of exhibitions, commissions, and workshops that will include many different areas of art such as visual arts, comedy, cinema, and more by both Saudi and International artists.

The compound built for this specific purpose is its own work of art. Long-time collaborators of Art Jameel, ‘Waiwai’, helped create the stunning complex. Waiwai is an award-winning multidisciplinary architecture, landscape, interior, graphic, and urban design studio. The Hayy Jameel building combines many aspects such as light, art, and courtyards to create a unique structure. The courtyard includes many different local and regional plant life, and acts as the perfect gathering spot for visitors and residents.262995872_329441391989095_4170191951492921113_n

You are greeted at Hayy Jameel with an abstract, colorful and breathtaking artwork on the facade of the building, commissioned by artist Nasser Al-Mulhim, which immediately grabs the attention of passersby due to its difference in architecture compared to the other buildings in the Al-Mohammadiya neighborhood. Including this, the main face of the complex is intended to depict a ‘blank canvas’, a place in which artists can showcase their artworks publicly, thus commissioning the art on the blank canvas. This will be activated through an annual juried Facade Commission.image-from-ios-1

Inside, the courtyard is surrounded by multiple floors which contain different exhibitions and ‘Hayy’s for each art form, all of which will include educational programs. The exhibitions will include those such as Hayy Arts: ‘Staple: What’s on your plate?’, ‘Paused Mirror: The Saudi Artists’ by Osama Esid, Illuminate: A Noor Riyadh Capsule, as well as collaborations such as with The Red Sea Film Festival titled Red Sea: Immersive and much more!

Coming soon in January – February 2022 is Hayy Cinema, Hayy Residents which will include collaborations with AlComedy Club, Athr Gallery, Homegrown and Riwaq Dahr as well as Aysh Academy.
