Top 5 Reasons Why You Need to Read “The Girl On the Train” by Paula Hawkins

Top 5 Reasons Why You Need to Read “The Girl On the Train” by Paula Hawkins

Quick recap (spoiler free): So Rachel takes the train to work everyday and always sees this golden couple across the train railways out of the window. She believes they lead the perfect life, the one she wants for herself. However, one day she sees something that shatters her notion of them and well… a can of worms is popped open.

Writing Style
The writing is very simple, no Shakespearean language over here. However, you have to stay on your toes because of the time shifts, flash backs and alternating viewpoints.

The Thrill
It’s a good mystery novel that keeps you wondering what will happen next. You are free to grasp whatever deep meaning you want out of it. But it is mainly a good source of excitement with interesting twists and turns. Not a dull moment!
Challenge: Will you be able to figure out the plot midway?

The Characters
The intricate depths of the characters are revealed bit by bit. You will be surprised at how they act under certain circumstances. Sometimes you will even think you went through something similar or you are susceptible to such an event.
List of characters who matter:

  • Rachel
  • Megan
  • Anna
  • Tom
  • Scott

Spoiler Alert or Maybe Not: The main character Rachel is a straight up mess! Fun to read, but maybe you don’t want her to be your bestie.

Preaching
Unlike other authors who seem to be preaching or indirectly reflecting how they think the world should be through their characters, Paula Hawkins doesn’t do that. She understands that people mess up and she makes that pretty clear through the story.

Movie Coming Up
The novel will be turned into a movie starring Emily Blunt. It’ll be released sometime during this year. Read the book so you can pick on every single detail the movie gets wrong or dismisses. Hey, we all know the film is never as good as the book.

Book is available at Jarir for SR 69.
