The cool and pleasant days have finally arrived. After the downpour in Jeddah and other parts of Saudi, Riyadh too is expecting beneficial rain soon, if Allah wills.

Rain, even the thought of it uplifts your spirits, brings cheer and gives relaxation to the mind and heart. How can anyone not take advantage of this wonderful blessing?

If you get caught in the storm just seconds from your destination? Well, that’s another story. But sometimes, we all need to take a step back and remind ourselves that things may not be as bad as they may seem. We forget to soak up those precious moments given to us, like the feeling of rain against our skin.

Here are 6 reasons those who love the rain understands.

1. When the forecast show you this, a sense of relief and serenity washes over you.

You know what else is awesome about rain?

Rain Water is blessed:

It is narrated by Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): That the rain fell from the heavens so he told his servant to bring out his mattress and saddle so that the rain may fall on it. Abu Jawzaa’ then asked Ibn Abbas: Why are you doing that, may Allah have mercy on you? He (Ibn Abbas) then said: Do you not read the book of Allah:

And We have sent down blessed rain from the sky and made grow thereby gardens and grain from the harvestQur’an, 50:9

{Mentioned in Imaam As-shafi’s book Al-Umm}

It is known that people often rejoice when rain falls; that is why Allah, The Almighty, says:

It is Allah who sends the winds, and they stir the clouds and spread them in the sky however He wills, and He makes them fragments so you see the rain emerge from within them. And when He causes it to fall upon whom He wills of His servants, immediately they rejoice.Qur’an, 30:48

It is Sunnah to stand in the rain:

It is the practice of the Prophet (peace be upon him) to expose any portion of your body to the rain no matter how small the portion may be like one’s head or arms.

Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that It rained upon us as we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) unveiled his garment (from a part of his body) until the rain fell on him. We said: Messenger of Allah, why did you do this? He said: Because it (the rainfall) has just come from the Exalted Lord. {Saheeḥ Muslim, 898}

It is a Time when the Supplication is Answered:

There are many times and places where supplication is answered and one of them is when rain falls, as it said in the hadeeth of Sahl ibn Sa’d that is attributed to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him):

“There are two which will not be rejected: supplication at the time of the call (to prayer) and when it is raining.”

{Narrated by Abu Dawood and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’ (3078)}

We are also instructed to pray for beneficial rain by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him):

It is narrated on the authority of ‘Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) who said that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saw rain he would say:

O Allah, bring beneficial rain clouds” – [al Bukhari]

The signs of Allah in this universe are many; every atom in it testifies to His greatness and majesty, and affirms His Oneness. Rain is one of Allah’s miracles too.

So make the most of this special time, ponder and live it up, pluviophiles!
