The All-New BISR Campus At the DQ

The All-New BISR Campus At the DQ

The British International School (BISR) is ready to welcome students to their new campus in the heart of the Diplomatic Quarter (DQ) in Riyadh.

We visited the new campus and the DQ Primary Leadership Team was kind enough to give us an in-person campus tour. If you follow us on Instagram, you must have already seen our coverage of the excellent school premises.

The BISR-DQ Campus is a modern, vibrant, and nurturing environment for learning that stands tall after undergoing an extensive renovation process over the last few months and is now ready to welcome students.dsc08653

“We were aware that some of our students had challenges because Riyadh is quite a big city, and getting across the city can be quite challenging for some of our families. And when we had the opportunity to work with the DQ general authority, we knew that they wanted to develop an international school provision in the DQ,” shared Ms. Helen Olds, the Principal of BISR-DQdsc08794

For the school year 2020-2021, the BISR-DQ campus will cater to children from ages 3-11, following the same curriculum as the other primary campuses; the English Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for the youngest children and the English National Curriculum (NC) for Years 1 to 6, adapted for our local and International Context. During the coming year, the campus will introduce grades 7 and 8; the first two years of senior school, and then in the next five years, the campus will grow into a full senior school. The programs for children in grades 7-11 will be the same as the Al Hamra campus, and for the senior students, BISR will offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma program. Students who wish to study A-Levels can move to Al Hamra campus, and students can transfer to the DQ campus to study the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, hence providing greater levels of choice to the students in the future.

In addition, the campus caters to a modern open indoor and outdoor facility for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) along with 5 specialist rooms for art, design and food technology, and learning support. The school also features a well-stocked library and a large multi-purpose hall. Sports facilities include a basketball court-sized indoor gym, an outdoor AstroTurf, an indoor 25-meter swimming pool, and an outdoor basketball court. The entire campus will be Wi-Fi enabled with bandwidth capability to support a full one-to-one device ICT program.

dsc08656The BISR supports learning in a wide range of ways, through its three pillars; learning, wellbeing, and co-curricular activities. These activities enhance learning and provide a holistic education for the students to excel and flourish.

“Our REACH motto is a core aspect of our academic and pastoral provision and helps children develop holistically to become the best versions of themselves,” says Ms. Helen Olds, the Principal of BISR-DQimg_20201013_151441

The motto REACH represents respect, excellence, accountability, challenge, and happiness and the BISR’s team believes that all of these things are the key ingredients for the well-being of a child’s day-to-day lives.
