Subha Community’s Ramadan Food Initiative

Subha Community’s Ramadan Food Initiative

Subha, the heartwarming initiative founded by Sanad Hourani and co-founder Yousef Amjad, has blossomed into a beacon of compassion and community support. The origin of this incredible journey was fueled by the profound impact the founders believed they could make during the holy month of Ramadan.

Inspired by the spirit of generosity and communal solidarity, they embarked on a modest effort to distribute meals and happiness, driven by a deepseated belief in the power of collective action.

Sanad reflects on Subha’s evolution since its inception, he notes the transformative journey of growth and expansion. “Initially, the initiative focused on a select number of families but has since grown significantly, becoming a testament to the community’s capacity for compassion.” The adoption of the name ‘Subha’ itself, inspired by prayer beads symbolizing mindfulness and gratitude, signifies the initiative’s essence and objectives, representing “a continuous cycle of giving and receiving.

“A pivotal development in Subha’s expansion has been the introduction of online donations,” Sanad emphasizes. This move has not only broadened their donor base but has also enhanced efficiency. Notably, a significant partnership with Al Oula Foundation is anticipated, amplifying their impact through an extensive network and resources. This collaboration aims to extend support beyond Ramadan, ensuring “a yearround commitment to community welfare.”

When asked about identifying community needs, Yousef shares, “The process involved research, engagement with local leaders, and surveys to grasp the challenges faced by the community.”

Focusing on Ramadan was a natural choice, aligning their efforts with a period of heightened communal solidarity and compassion.“The early stages brought their share of challenges, from resource limitations to logistical hurdles,” Sanad recalls. However, through perseverance, innovation, and the dedication of volunteers, Subha overcame these obstacles. “Technological advancements, optimized processes, and strong community partnerships were key strategies that propelled the organization forward.”

Yousef narrates how amid the challenges, heartwarming success stories emerged, such as the inspiring tale of Mohammad. This young volunteer from a poor neighborhood not only benefited from Subha’s mission but also became an integral part of the distribution efforts. His story exemplifies “the profound impact of Subha, fostering not only community support but also empowerment and leadership among its youngest members.”

Looking ahead, Subha’s vision is broad and promising. “Beyond providing meals during Ramadan, the organization aspires to tackle food insecurity and enhance community welfare throughout the year,” both mentioning how embracing technology, forging impactful partnerships, and innovating their approach are key components of their future strategy. The ultimate vision is one of lasting positive change, weaving “a stronger social safety net that fosters resilience, empowerment, and unity within the community.” As Subha moves forward, they are energized by the potential to touch even more lives with “their message of hope, support, and shared humanity,”
