Most Anticipated Summer Movies 2023

Summer is just around the corner and with it, numerous surprises are hitting the big screen! Buckle up for a season full of entertainment from exhilarating superhero franchises to action-packed, and cozy, nostalgia filled movies; in order of release


Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Marking the end of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, this film has been highly anticipated by all Marvel fans around the world. It was recently released on May 4 and is still being shown in cinemas, so don’t miss it! Directed by James Gunn and featuring an ensemble cast, including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter, Elizabeth Debicki and Daniela Melchior. 

After the aftermath of EndGame, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 thrusts back our favorite characters into a risky adventure to protect one of their own after their loss of Gamora. Emotional origins and goodbyes are scattered throughout this film, which serves as an ending ribbon to this amazing series. 

Fast X

It was announced May 12 that Fast X will be a trilogy finale to one of the most thrilling franchises of all time. Deemed as Universal’s biggest franchise, Fast and Furious is a series spanning two decades and entering its third, with a family we rapidly grew attached to. This finale was said to bring closure to the late actor Paul Walker’s character Brian O’Conner, as quoted by Vin Diesel “I couldn’t imagine this saga ending without truly saying goodbye to Brian O’Conner.” Directed by  Louis Leterrier, the movie will star Vin Diesel and the rest of the Fast Family, as well as Jason Momoa, Charlize Theron, Brie Larson, and Rita Moreno. Meadow Walker will also guest-star in the movie in honor of her late father, Paul Walker. Looking forward to its release in cinemas on May 18!

Entering the final lap of the race, the family of Dominic Toretto faces off another vengeful and lethal foe who is set on destroying everything Dom loves and cares for. With new allies and new enemies on the battlefield, will they succeed in evading this threat and protecting the family? 


The Little Mermaid

Everyone has heard of the live-action Disney movie, The Little Mermaid. It is one of the most circulating topics of the summer, with its anticipated musical magic and joyful essence of the original. Set to release May 26, the movie is directed by Rob Marshall and features stars such as Halle Bailey, Jonah Hauer-King, Melissa McCarthy, Javier Bardem, Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay, and Awkwafina. 

Mermaid princess Ariel cuts a deal with a sea witch to exchange her voice for human legs, after falling in love with human prince Eric. Take the journey with her to discover the human world and what it has to offer.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Miles Morales returns to the big screen in a sequel to award winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and we are excited! Producer Phil Lord shared with Empire magazine that while “The first film had one animation style that dominates the movie. This movie has six,” and considering the first won an oscar for Best Animated Feature, we are definitely anticipating this one! It will hit the theater on June 1, directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson. As for its cast, the characters are voiced by Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar Isaac, Jake Johnson, and Issa Rae, among others. 

Following Miles Morales’ reunion with Gwen, he is thrust across the multiverse to meet other spider-people who team up with him to confront a new threat. However, when they are pitted against one another, he must rely on himself to save his loved ones. “Anyone can wear the mask – it’s how you wear it that makes you a hero.”
