Spirit of Ramadan has been bridging cultures through visual story telling and curating images from people’s Ramadan around the world since 2011. The project tapped into the artistic abilities of millions of people across the globe in an effort to share the beauty of our holy month. The initiative began as an annual photography competition with a prestigious judging panel including its founder Dr. Basel Almisshal, an award winning architect and United Nations Photographer.

Inspired by Humans of New York, Humans of Ramadan was initiated by Usama Malik last year due to his love for photography. Malik traveled to different cities in the Texan state to visit several mosques to ask people about their background and experiences, hoping to shed light on the time when Muslims are closest to their faith and to show their diversity, beauty and wisdom. He plans to continue this project this year with a wider audience.
