Tokyo Restaurant is not a new name for sushi. When it opened in 1985 as a small place on Al Uruba Road, it was one of the first authentic Japanese restaurants in Riyadh. Since then, it has grown to become a long-time local favorite and even earned a recommendation from the Japanese Embassy in Riyadh.
Recently re-owned and refurbished by Roboah Alanoud Trading Co., Tokyo has undergone a major “face lift” both in and outdoors.
Zen Garden
Deputy CEO, Mr. Saleh AlDrees said their vision for the new Tokyo is for it to be “contemporary yet authentic.” The entrance now features a Zen garden, and the dining areas and new washrooms reflect the clean and simple Japanese sense of style. They will also be updating the menu design, adding more items, and looking forward to opening their new branch in AlKhobar.
Mr. Hagemu Nishumuri (formerly the owner and head chef), stayed on board as general manager, and continues to maintain the restaurant’s high standards. As for quality, specialized kitchen equipment and fresh fish are both imported from Japan. The super friendly and efficient staff has been increased, and a new specialized Japanese sushi chef, Mr. Takashi Ikemura, joined the team.
Lunch
At lunchtime, the single’s section is packed! Consider yourself lucky if you manage to snag a seat at the Sushi Bar. As a courtesy to their loyal customers, they offer a shuttle bus service to pick up/ drop off corporate and hospital employees.

Moving on to to what really matters… the food! Once you are seated, you’ll be served complimentary miso soup and salad. Sushi lovers enjoy ordering the traditional sushi, maki and temaki, as well as the unique special crab and spicy dragon, all of which can be reserved. Not a sushi fan? They’ll fire up the grill for mouthwatering tepanyaki cooked right in front of you.
Famous favorites also include the succulent salmon sashimi, savory teriyaki, crispy katsu and flavorful noodles. Finish off your satisfying meal with a cup of calming green tea.
