When fashion is used to better the world.
All fashion runways are known for their couture dresses and captivating designs, so who would have thought that a simple t-shirt with powerful words would get the fashion world talking. The Christian Dior ready to wear 2017 spring collection included a t-shirt with the statement “We Should All Be Feminists.” This top was the highlight of the entire show and was the most Instagram-ed photo.
Maria Grazia Chiuri, Christian Dior’s Artistic Director, was inspired by Nigerian novelist and feminist icon, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s famous TEDx talk that was featured in Beyoncé’s Flawless music video.
The famous t-shirt can be seen on lots of celebrities and fashion bloggers such as Rihanna, Natalie Portman, Lana El Sahely and Chiarra Ferganni. The price tag for the t-shirt stands for $710; however, it is noted that a portion of the sales will be donated to Rihanna’s charity, The Clara Lionel Foundation.
Chiuri believes that fashion should be used in a way to express one’s self, and she has truly used fashion in a fresh and new way to look at women of all ages with empowerment in mind.
