In a hidden corner of Riyadh, where the art of photography meets the culinary world, Kimyona opens its doors to offer a distinctive dining experience like no other. Conceived as a tribute to the love of photography and the rich diversity of Asian cuisine, Kimyona promises an extraordinary journey for the senses.
More than just a restaurant, Kimyona is a speakeasy that transforms the art of experimention into an immersive and innovative discovery of modern Asian dishes. Inspired by the darkroom’s aesthetics—black and white film and red light exposure—the restaurant’s design takes guests through a unique journey. Starting at a street-side gallery, patrons enter through a hidden door leading into a cozy, dimly-lit dining room, where every sensation is awakened and celebrated.
“The starting point for this project was to create a sense of belonging. A space where people can go to disconnect from the daily distractions of the city,” says Abdullah Alazzaz, owner of Kimyona. “What better way to do that than indulging in conversation with friends or family over a delicious meal?”
The name Kimyona is derived from the Japanese word for “incomparable,” reflecting the restaurant’s unique speakeasy concept and exceptional Pan-Asian culinary offerings which, are in fact, incomparable in Riyadh.
Kimyona’s expert chef incorporates innovative culinary techniques to craft such dishes as the Duck Bao, Burmese Fermented Tea Leaf Salad and the exceptional Javanese inspired chicken curry. Complementary to the dining experience is an exquisite selection of mocktails such as the matcha and mint infused Osaka Sanmi and Kimyona Breeze crafted with sweet basil. The speakeasy ambiance and carefully curated mocktails enhance each dish, making every visit truly memorable.
