A Major Step Toward Safeguarding AlUla’s Historical Legacy
The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) has formed a strategic partnership with The National Archives (UK) to support the preservation and documentation of AlUla’s cultural heritage, aligning with RCU’s commitment to safeguarding history as part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
The partnership will focus on key areas including archival research, training, public programming, and digitisations. Together, they will drive initiatives such as joint research, digital archiving projects, and cultural exhibitions to highlight the rich history of AlUla.
Abeer Al Akel, Acting CEO of RCU, commented: “This collaboration strengthens our efforts to preserve AlUla’s historical legacy, contributing to Saudi Arabia’s broader cultural goals under Vision 2030.” Saul Nassé, CEO of The National Archives, remarked: “We are excited to work with RCU to safeguard the invaluable heritage of northwest Arabia.”
This partnership builds on RCU’s existing collaborations, including work with the King Abdulaziz Public Library and UNESCO’s AlUla Documentary Heritage Project, further cementing AlUla’s position as a cultural and historical destination.
