Riyadh introduces new parking initiative

Get ready to reverse into fresh parking spots.

Riyadh Mayoralty has launched the Riyadh parking initiative. The ambitious project is in its first phase and is set to bring exciting upgrades to the capital’s parking.

Part of a larger Parking Plan initiative, the project aims to decrease traffic congestion as well as the flow of traffic. The first phase will bring thousands of new parking spaces to Riyadh.

The massive program is a collaboration between  Remat Al Riyadh Development Company, Riyadh Mayoralty and the Saudi Telecommunication Company (STC).

So get your blinkers on. Here is everything to know about the new initiative.

Riyadh parking initiative

The streets of Riyadh are about to become a lot less congested with the new parking project. The initiative will relieve traffic congestion by reducing illegal parking and is set to bring in 24,000 new parking lots.

The project will have an impact on the quality of residents’ livers making it in-line with Vision 2030.

The first phase will include the creation and management of 140,000 parking lots in residential neighbourhoods. There will also be paid parking as well as solar-powered parking payment machines.

The plan is set to bring new parking lots to multiple districts including Al Rahmaniyah, Al Olaya (west), As Sulaimaniyah and more.

Riyadh paid parking

Paid parking in Riyadh is set to be introduced after Wednesday, September 25., right after the Saudi National Day long-weekend. Over ten neighbourhoods will be joining the project including Al Muruj and Al Wurood.

Parking in these areas after September 25 will cost SAR3.45 per hour and you will be able to pay it using one of the 60 solar-powered paying stations in the capital.

Unsure of how to navigate the city now? Riyadh Mayoralty has released Riyadh Parking, an app that will show each neighbourhood with paid parking. You will also be able to book spots via the app.

The parking will be free from midnight to 7am and chargeable from 7am to midnight.

Vision 2030 is an ambitious transformation plan that aims to improve the growing sectors of employment, health, housing, investment, entertainment, food and more. The plan has been the basis of several new projects being introduced in the Kingdom including Riyadh Season, MDLBEAST Soundstorm, Green Riyadh and more.
