Nafisa Shams Academy Concludes Women’s Cinematic Costume Initiative

Nafisa Shams Academy for Arts and Crafts, supported by the Community Jameel Saudi Foundation, has successfully concluded the Costumes in Cinematic Production Initiative in collaboration with the Royal Commission for AlUla, represented by the Entrepreneurship Empowerment Center, Vibes AlUla. This initiative was introduced in order to empower women entrepreneurs by delivering an immersive training program, commencing in November 2023 within AlUla province.

The project helps the movie and TV industries grow by teaching people how to make costumes that bring stories to life. It pushes talented pupils to improve their skills and makes the film and TV business better. The initiative significantly supports the film and television industry by fostering costume design that aligns with the visions of directors and authors.

Over a month and a half, 15 passionate women in tailoring and fashion design were selected to take part in the program. They underwent an intensive training program covering 60 hours, looking into and learning about professional marketing, entrepreneurship, and the fundamental aspects of creating costumes for films. After completing the program, they received certificates accredited by the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation. Moreover, the aspiring designers were equipped with essential tools, support, and access to launch their online stores on local e-commerce platforms.

Dr. May Taibah, Director of Nafisa Shams Academy and Member of the Board of Trustees at Community Jameel Saudi, emphasized, “This initiative is a testament to our commitment to empowering Saudi women. In the flourishing film and entertainment industry, we aim to harness the creative capabilities of female artisans to positively influence this vibrant sector. These skilled women, equipped with training and support, have transformed their abilities into inspirational artworks, advancing both the industry and society in line with our vision for the future.”

This amazing initiative actively enhances the roles of women in the emerging cinematic realm, reflecting Community Jameel Saudi’s dedication to empowering women to become independent. Aligned with Vision 2030, particularly the Human Capacity Development Program and Quality of Life Program, this effort aims to nurture a skilled workforce, localize the entertainment and cinema sectors, and foster inclusive and prosperous societies.
