Merging the speed and energy of motorsports with innovative green credentials, Ad Diriyah E-Prix in Riyadh marked a new era of allelectric street racing in the form of Season 5 of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship.
Thousands of fans flocked to the historic Ad Diriyah district that brought together one of the most exciting line-ups seen in motorsports, in which drivers competed in innovative, singleseater, open-wheel cars which are exclusively battery-powered.
During the three-day event, all 11 Formula E teams and 22 Gen2 cars and drivers took to the 2.495km track, specially built in
the heart of the district, as they bid to be crowned champion. The diverse and competitive line-ups also saw the highest female participation in a Formula E event, marking a step-change for motorsport as well as Saudi Arabia.The ABB FIA Formula E Championship began with a thrilling finish, where Antonio Felix da Costa was victorious for BMW I Andretti.
The series also featured the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY making its debut in the sidelines of ABB FIA Formula E Championship, that included two local Saudi racers: Bandar Alesayi and Ahmad bin Khanen, who competed on the world stage in zero-emissions motorsport. The local racers of Saudi Racing finished second and third respectively, while Alice Powell took the top spot on the podium in the PRO-AM category.
The first-of-its-kind event in the Kingdom included fan zones, drivers› autograph session, interactive displays, and entertainment. Race competitions at the gaming arena were also part of the festivities for Formula E.
The highlight of the after-race entertainment was a string of unforgettable gigs by globallyacclaimed artists and musicians
such as Enrique Iglesias, Jason Derulo, the Black Eyed Peas, Amr Diab, One Republic, and David Guetta.With the partnership of the General Sports Authority of Saudi Arabia (GSA) and the Saudi Arabian Motor Federation (SAMF), inspired by Vision
2030, the season 5 the Formula E Championship turned out to be a huge success.
