The demand for global air travel continues to grow on economic optimism and an improved business environment. According to IATA, the world’s airlines are expected to transport over 3bn passengers this year, which equates to approximately 44% of the world’s population. Also, 48 million tons of cargo will be transported by air. This represents roughly 35% of world trade by value. The Aviation Industry currently produces 3.5% of the global Gross Domestic Product, GDP, which equals US$2.2 trillion annually.
Thanks to robust Middle East economies and increasing global oil exports, the Middle East Aviation Market, in particular, will witness significant growth over the next 20 years, with passenger traffic forecast to grow at 6.2 percent annually according to an IATA source. Airlines from the region are expected to receive delivery of 1,963 new passenger and cargo aircraft during this era of explosive development. As a hub for both leisure and business travel, the Middle East is in a particularly advantageous position to benefit from this growth. Emerging economies are also likely to see significant expansion of their aviation sectors in the coming years.
