This course aims to introduce fundamental drawing methods exploring a range of tools and medium such as pencil, conte’, charcoal, and ink. Tips and methods will be used to enhance and develop drawing skills in tried and tested teaching approaches.

Historical overview of Drawing – (historical overview)
Tools and materials (medium and paper) Sketchbook types of paper
Elements of Art: (line+ shape+ form+ texture+ value+ color and light) Principles of Art: unity and variety+ scale and proportion+ rhythm+ balance+ contrast + emphasis
Drawing Mechanics – holding tools + measuring systems
Building Observational skills
perspective ( eye level + horizons line + station points)
Exploring lines (thickness, weight, pressure, directions) Shapes – contour drawings ( basic geometrical shapes)
Forms- figure and ground + shading technique ( line strokes + blending) subtractive and additive methods( using grounds and erasers) using pencils- charcoal – ink
Texture (tactile + implied) frontage technique
Basic Composition – view finder – rule of thirds + golden section
Perspective views 1 point – Using Charcoal
2 point perspective- Using Pen and ink
