No more having to beg your parents for just “five more minutes” on the console because gaming is now part of your education.

That’s right, the introduction of video games in Saudi school curriculum has been announced.

Saudi Arabia’s own esports company, Savvy Games Group has partnered with the Ministry of Education to bring games to educational institutions across the Kingdom.

Parents, think twice before taking those gaming devices away, you may be harming your child’s education.

If you are worried about your child’s early-age development, you’ll be pleased to learn that only students in high school and universities will be allowed to opt for gaming development courses.

Additionally, Savvy is integrating games into the e-learning platform Madrasati, securing official accreditation for the Savvy Academy, and fostering talent development through the Waed Track for training programs, entrepreneurship support, and scholarships, as well as the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Scholarship Program.

The statewide “Play to Learn” game development competition for high school students, which aims to encourage students’ interest in game development and increase knowledge of career routes in the games industry, will also receive assistance from Savvy as part of the Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Education.

The Kingdom’s renewed push towards gaming is not a surprise. Saudi Arabia is quickly becoming the gaming capital of the world with major events like the summer-long celebration of gaming at the Esports World Cup and the newly introduced Esports Nations Cup. The cup will be played for the first time this November.
