If you have been dreaming of a white festive season in the Saudi capital, do not give up because it may just come true.

Prepare to throw your windows open dramatically (though we recommend keeping them sealed shut) and scream, “let it snow” because it is being heavily projected that snow in Riyadh and Al Qassim may fall.

Based on reports from the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), both Saudi regions are facing a high likelihood of snowfall covering the streets and peaks this week.

The forecast follows a red alert in Riyadh and Al Qassim as well as in-person classes suspension.

The NCM is warning of an active weather spell across the Kingdom, with moderate to heavy thunderstorms expected over parts of Riyadh, the Eastern Province, and the Northern Borders, raising the risk of flash floods. Hail and strong, gusty winds may accompany the storms, while lighter rain is forecast for Tabuk, Al Jouf, Hail, and Qassim, with fog possible in some areas. Colder conditions could even bring light snowfall and frost to the highlands of Tabuk, Hail, and northeastern Madinah. At sea, both the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf may see rough conditions, with strong winds, rising waves, and stormy weather in places.
