Tennis has been gaining a lot of traction with Saudi Arabia as the Kingdom routinely hosts massive tournaments.
From Six Kings Slam that see tennis legends Carlos Alcaraz, Janick Sinner, and more grace the capital city every year for Riyadh Season to Jeddah hosting the ATP Next Gen finals since 2023, tennis has managed to lodge itself into the Saudi nation’s conscience.
So, its really no surprise that the Saudi ATP Masters 1000 tournament has been announced.
The debut matches will be played in 2028 and while that is still just a little over two years away, our excitement has already begun to lob and spin.

Saudi ATP Masters 1000 tournament 2028
The ATP Masters 1000 tournaments are a powerhouse series of nine elite events that bring together the world’s top tennis stars each year. Just below the Grand Slams, these tournaments are among the most prestigious titles in the sport, often called the “Big Titles.” Since their debut in 1990, legends like Novak Djokovic, who holds a record 40 titles and is the only player to win all nine, have defined greatness here. In doubles, the Bryan brothers and Daniel Nestor share that same golden legacy, making the Masters 1000 a true stage for tennis history.
With the addition of Saudi Arabia to the calendar, the tournament has expanded from nine elite events to a nice, even 10.
According to the Saudi Gazette, the event was launched through a partnership between SURJ Sports Investment (a PIF company) and the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).
The new tournament builds on the strong partnership between PIF and the ATP, which already includes PIF’s role as the naming partner for both the ATP and WTA Rankings, joint work on major tour events, and the creation of the innovative “ATP Tennis IQ Powered by PIF” platform.
As a shareholder in ATP Media, the tournament will spotlight player experience, fan excitement, and tennis development at every level, supported by a nationwide program with the Saudi Tennis Federation to make the sport more inclusive, accessible, and full of homegrown talent.
