Saudi Arabia has embarked on an ambitious architectural journey with the launch of the Saudi Architecture Map, a groundbreaking initiative unveiled by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. This initiative showcases 19 distinctive architectural styles that resonate with the Kingdom’s diverse geographical and cultural landscape.
Designed to preserve and celebrate Saudi Arabia’s rich architectural heritage, the Saudi Architecture Map establishes comprehensive design guidelines tailored to each region. This strategic initiative is a pivotal component of Vision 2030, aiming not only to enhance urban aesthetics but also to stimulate economic sectors such as tourism, hospitality, and construction.

Each of the 19 architectural styles featured in the map including Central Najdi, Hejazi Coast, Sarawat Mountains, and Farasan Islands emphasizes a blend of tradition and modernity. The guidelines offer flexibility, encouraging innovative use of modern materials while maintaining local authenticity across three design typographies: traditional, transitional, and contemporary.
The economic impact of this initiative is projected to be substantial, with an expected contribution of over SAR 8 billion ($2.1 billion) to Saudi Arabia’s GDP by 2030. Moreover, the Saudi Architecture Map is set to create approximately 34,000 jobs in engineering, construction, and urban development, both directly and indirectly.
The initial phase of implementation will commence in key regions such as Al Ahsa, Taif, Makkah, and Abha, focusing on significant governmental and infrastructural projects. This phased approach underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to fostering a cohesive urban identity that harmonizes with its past while embracing future aspirations.
In summary, the Saudi Architecture Map marks a transformative milestone in Saudi Arabia’s architectural evolution, promising not just structural development but also a renewed cultural and economic vigor across the Kingdom.
