An Immersive Experience Tracing Prophet Muhammad’s PBUH Journey from Makkah to Madinah
In a historic and deeply immersive initiative, Saudi Arabia has launched “In the Prophet’s Steps,” a project that allows visitors to relive the sacred journey of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) during his migration from Makkah to Madinah. By following his footsteps, this experience transforms history into a living narrative, offering pilgrims and visitors a unique opportunity to connect with the historical essence of one of Islam’s most defining moments.

Unveiled by Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Madinah Region and Chairman of the Madinah Development Authority, the project was inaugurated at Mount Uhud in the presence of dignitaries, including Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, and senior officials from various government entities. Prince Salman reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s unwavering commitment to preserving and revitalizing Islamic heritage, ensuring that future generations can engage with their faith in profound and meaningful ways.
A Journey Through Time: Retracing the Prophet’s Hijrah
The project spans a 470-kilometer route from Makkah to Madinah, featuring 41 historical landmarks that played a significant role in the migration. Visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in five key storytelling stations, each highlighting pivotal moments of the journey through interactive and engaging content.
To enhance the visitor experience, the project will incorporate augmented reality simulations, historical reenactments, and hands-on workshops that bring the Hijrah story to life. Guests will also have the option to traverse the route by foot, camel, or specialized vehicles, recreating the authentic travel conditions of the time.
Prince Salman emphasized that the initiative reflects the Kingdom’s dedication to enriching religious and cultural experiences while seamlessly integrating history, technology, and tradition.
“The development of the Prophet’s Migration Route stands as a living testament to the unwavering commitment of our wise leadership to preserving historical sites,” he said.
“This project represents a comprehensive vision that aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, ensuring the care and recognition of historical landmarks that help future generations understand the values and teachings of the Prophet (peace be upon him) during his sacred journey,” he added.
A World-Class Visitor Experience
Designed to accommodate up to one million visitors, the project is equipped with 62 service stations, including 52 rest stops, eight luxury overnight camps, and a main lodging area in Quba featuring medical centers, over 80 restaurants and retail shops, and dedicated spaces for cultural engagement. The historic location of Al Juhfa, a significant waypoint on the journey, will house the largest museum dedicated to the Prophet’s migration, offering an in-depth exploration of this pivotal event.
Turki Alalshikh highlighted the Kingdom’s broader vision to showcase its rich Islamic and cultural heritage, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s role as the custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. “Under the guidance of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, this initiative aligns with Saudi Vision 2030’s objectives to preserve historical sites and offer unparalleled experiences for visitors,” he said.
The “In the Prophet’s Steps” experience is set to officially launch in November 2025 and will run for six months, providing a deeply moving and historically immersive journey for visitors from around the world.
