Got a long trip planned that requires hopping on and off the public transport?

Good news for you, then, because the Riyadh Metro Park and Ride initiative is now free.

That’s right, you can now park your cars at any of the metro’s in-built parking areas without the fear of racking up massive fees.

The first 12 hours following you pulling into your spot are now free (yes, really!).

Going to your job and fun little excursions around the city just got that much more affordable.

The awesome change was revealed on the Riyadh Transport Instagram last week.

Wondering how it all works? Here is everything to know about the newest initiative from Riyadh transport.

Riyadh Metro Park and Ride

Part of the larger King Abdulaziz Project for Riyadh Public transport, the metro network of the Saudi capital city was inaugurated with six lines, 80 metro stations, 2,860 bus routes, and 842 buses back in December 2024. The system has since then expanded massively including a brand-new line which was announced in December of 2025.

In addition to the Riyadh Metro park and ride, the transportation network has also introduced student prices and year-round tickets.

How the Riyadh Metro Park and Ride system works

Tired of taking the Uber in the morning to your nearest metro station in the morning before taking it again in the evening? You will now no longer have to wait for the Uber or the bus on demand service because you can just park your own car at a metro parking area and take the trains without racking up any parking charges for the first 12 hours.

All you need to do is tap your physical Darb card at the parking’s entrance to enjoy the benefits of parking and riding.

An important point to keep in mind, following the 12th hour, you will be charged SAR10 for every new hour your car remains parked in the metro parking lot.

The Red Sea City has also joined in the fun and introduced its fresh fleet of eco-friendly buses. The KAFD monorail has just been announced and the pilot phase of self-driving cars has been launched.

Free. Across Riyadh, @riyadhtransport.
