The Kingdom is quickly becoming a tourist hotspot with world-class events such as Riyadh Season, the on-going Jeddah Season, the upcoming MDLBEAST Soundstorm, and more.

The increased influx has seen quite a few traffic violations including incessant hailing that is disruptive.

To combat these problems, the Transport General Authority (TGA) has announced brand-new Saudi ride-hailing rules.

As reported by the Saudi Gazette, these rules aim to curb violations with strict and hearty fines along with protecting passenger rights.

So if you are in the business of ferrying people, keep these rules in mind.

Ride-hailing refers to the practice of using apps to book a ride. However, in the context of these rules, ride-hailing talks about getting waved down by taxi drivers for your trip. A common practice observed outside of heavy foot-traffic areas such as restaurants, malls, cafés, and more.

Here’s the deal: drivers are strictly banned from hustling for passengers. That means no calling out, no chasing or intercepting people, no hanging around pickup spots, and definitely no cruising the streets hoping to score a ride.

Break the rules and it’ll cost you big. Fines start at SAR11,000 and can climb to SAR20,000, with your car impounded for up to 60 days. In serious cases, vehicles may even be auctioned off, and non-Saudi violators could face deportation.
