Saudi Arabia is consistently unveiling programs and initiatives to best leverage the Kingdom’s proud heritage in modern society. The recently introduced Saudi Riyal symbol is proof of this.

Now, the Ministry of Culture has introduced not one, but two new typefaces inspired by ancient Arabic scripts— Al-awwal and Saudi.

The lettering pay tribute to the Kingdom’s vast cultural and aesthetic heritage and serve as a bridge between the past and the present.

Born from the rich lands of Saudi Arabia—home to ancient scripts like Musnad, Nabataean, and Thamudic—comes a fresh take on Arabic typefaces.

Inspired by early rock inscriptions and the first Quranic manuscripts, these two designs blend deep-rooted history with modern expression, giving Arabic speakers a powerful new way to connect with their heritage.

The fresh fonts blend the nation’s legacy with modern aesthetics and can be used by anyone for anything including official documents and creative projects.

The fonts blend traditional elements with contemporary design principles. This harmonious blend not only honors the Kingdom’s legacy but also inspires innovation.

The first of the two new Arabic typefaces, Al-Awwal is a stylish twist on ancient script, inspired by the elegant handwriting of the first Hijri century. It mixes old-school charm with modern calligraphy flair, bridging the past and present in one beautifully crafted typeface.
