About Murabba Historical Palace

The late King Abdulaziz Al Saud, founder of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, ordered the construction of Al-Murabba Palace, 2 km from old Riyadh. The palace has undergone various developments and expansions. Murabba Historical Palace was like a small integrated city that included several buildings. The King and his entourage moved to it in 1939, making it his official headquarters, a headquarters for managing state affairs, and a center for meetings with leaders.
Murabba Historical Palace Design

The location of the palace is ideal and suitable due to several factors, including the flat, fertile land on which it was built, and the heights that border the palace from the north, and from the south the orchards of Al-Fawtah and Al-Hawtah, and from the east the Batha Valley, and to the west the Murabba historical Palace overlooks the Abu Rafi Valley.
Stones, mud mixed with straw, palm fronds, and tamarisk trunks were used to build the palace. The mud hardened when exposed to sunlight. The ceilings and doors were made of these materials.
The palace reflects the art of ancient architecture, combining simplicity and architectural art. It was planned to be built by King Abdulaziz and implemented by Hamad bin Quba. Murabba Historical Palace is a square structure that includes many facilities, including the King’s Court, which was concerned with state affairs. It consists of two floors, each containing 16 rooms, including servants’ rooms, guest reception rooms, and administrative offices. It also includes a residential complex and a mosque.
