The Saudi Local Conference of Youth 2024 (LCOY 2024) Jeddah Hub wrapped up on September 20th.
Hosted by the Saudi Youth Climate Network and Global Shapers Community, the conference focused on “Empowering Climate Entrepreneurship: From Knowledge Capital to Financial Capital.” It aspires to equip Saudi youth with tools for sustainable entrepreneurship by uniting young climate advocates and industry experts in the exchange of intergenerational dialogue surrounding green technologies.
A significant panel regarded exciting innovations such as soil amendments and sustainable water solutions, which stressed the importance for government support and cross-sector partnerships.
The Global Shapers Jeddah Hub developed the creation of a National Youth Statement, which would give voice to the concerns of Saudi youth in upcoming climate conferences. Curator of Global Shapers Jeddah Hub Hassan Qadi commented, “KSA LCOY 2024 marks a pivotal moment for Saudi youth-led climate action. We are focusing on nurturing startups that address climate challenges while aligning with Vision 2030’s ambition to diversify the economy and increase non-oil GDP.”
The conference closed with a Memorandum of Understanding between the Saudi Youth Climate Network, Prince Sultan University’s Center of Sustainability and Climate, and Vision for Africa. This lays the groundwork for more youth involvement in climate action.
