The King Fahd Causeway is a 25-kilometre bridge connecting Al Khobar in Saudi Arabia to Al Jasra in Bahrain, spanning stretches of sea and reclaimed land across the Gulf of Bahrain. Discussions for the project began in 1954, with plans formalised in 1965, and it was officially inaugurated in November 1986, taking its name from King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The four-lane causeway, featuring two roadways each 11.6 metres wide, was built using 350,000 cubic metres of concrete and reinforced with 147,000 metric tonnes of steel, at a total cost of USD 800 million (SAR 3 billion).
