Jeddah is hosting a piece of maritime history as the Amerigo Vespucci, the oldest active ship in the Italian Navy, docks at the Jeddah Yacht Club and Marina. From January 27 to 30, this iconic vessel is part of its world tour and is here for the first time in its 93-year history.

What is the Amerigo Vespucci?
The Amerigo Vespucci, launched in 1931, is known as “the most beautiful ship in the world.” This three-masted sailing ship serves as a training vessel for cadets at the Italian Naval Academy. It’s also a symbol of Italy’s naval tradition. The ship, which has traveled across the globe, is now in Jeddah, allowing visitors to explore its decks and learn about its rich history. Crew members are on hand to share stories and answer questions.
The available visiting times:
- Monday, January 27: 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM
- Tuesday, January 28: 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM
- Wednesday, January 29: 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM & 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM
Visitors are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes while exploring the ship.
Villaggio Italia
Alongside the Amerigo Vespucci, Jeddah is also hosting Villaggio Italia, a celebration of Italian culture and innovation. The exhibition, open from January 27 to 30, offers a chance to discover the beauty and creativity of Italy through food, craftsmanship, technology, and industry.
What you can experience at Villaggio Italia:
- Italian Cuisine: Enjoy Italian food tastings and cooking demos.
- Traditional Craftsmanship: Watch live demonstrations of Italian craftsmanship.
- Exhibitions: View displays of Italian botanical gardens and modern innovations.
- Italian Industry: Learn about Italy’s leaders in industries like luxury, automotive (e.g., Pirelli and Fincantieri), and design.

Additionally, the film La parte del leone (2023) will be screened as part of the celebration of Italian cinema.
The Amerigo Vespucci and Villaggio Italia also highlight the close relationship between Italy and Saudi Arabia. Italy has a large and active community in Saudi Arabia, contributing to the growing collaboration between the two countries in sectors like tourism, technology, and industry.
Both the Amerigo Vespucci and Villaggio Italia are free to visit, though some events require prior booking due to limited availability. You can find more details and make reservations at tourvespucci.it.
