What to expect at Ithra’s Horizon in their Hands exhibition 2025

Horizon in their Hands shines a spotlight on the creativity and influence of Arab women artists who transformed tradition and resourcefulness into powerful forms of expression. The exhibition celebrates their artistry across paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and intricate works crafted from glass, brass, and tapestry, each piece offering a fresh perspective shaped by unique cultural and personal stories. It’s a vibrant blend of styles and voices that reimagines modern Arab art history and highlights how women helped shape it.
Among the standout names are Safeya Binzagr and Mounirah Mosly from Saudi Arabia, Egypt’s Inji Efflatoun and Susan Hefuna, Morocco’s Chaibia Talal, and Palestine’s Vera Tamari. From early pioneers like Zeinab Abd El Hamid and Safia Farhat to contemporary talents such as Mariam Al Fakhro and Suad Al-Essa, the showcase reveals a rich timeline of artistic evolution across the Arab world.
For Ithra and the Barjeel Art Foundation, this collaboration is more than an exhibition, it’s a tribute to legacy, creativity, and connection. As Ithra’s museum head Farah Abushullaih notes, creativity is how we leave our mark, and this showcase is a powerful reminder of that. Through their joint efforts, both institutions aim to preserve these artists’ contributions and keep inspiring dialogue between generations across the region and beyond.
