For two nights (July 8-9), the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) stood still as it brought the kingdom of Arendelle on stage. Disney’s Frozen was seen in a different light, this time with a captivating performance of a renowned musical group from Armenia. The icy world of Elsa, Anna and Olaf unfolded in a new dimension, and the audience could not escape the spellbinding magic brought about by the sweeping live musical score. Like the earlier Disney concert held in Ithra, the film on screen seamlessly blended with the remarkable melodies created by the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra.
A flock of young ‘Frozen’ fans

It was a scene straight from Frozen – Ithra was filled with young girls dressed in shimmering light blue gowns and sparkling tiaras. This sight added to the excitement in the air as parents also waited in anticipation to see the glow in their kids’ eyes during the show. The electrifying wonder was palpable in every corner, as wide-eyed kids patiently lined up to have their picture taken in a Frozen-themed photo booth. For Disney fans, it was a dream come true to witness their favorite film again on screen and the big bonus is they get to hear a world-class orchestra play.
Letting Go: The ‘Frozen’ story unfolds

Frozen is a tale on sisterhood, self-discovery, friendship and love. The film has enamored children and kids at heart not only because of its great cinematography, but also of its story packed with life lessons. It tells about the journey of the highly positive Anna and her sister Elsa, the heiress to the throne of their parents. As princesses, the royal expectations weighed down on their shoulders especially Elsa whose icy powers trapped their kingdom in infinite winter. They encountered pains of loss, betrayal and doubt which they overcame with the help of amazing friends along the way. Who would forget the charming Olaf who was instrumental to the sisters’ survival in order to save the kingdom of Arendelle?
Melodies that melted hearts

The live concert at Ithra left the guests wanting for more as the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra skillfully played the famous tunes of Frozen such as ‘Let it Go’ and ‘Do you want to build a snowman’. As in last week’s Lion King concert in Ithra, the group demonstrated their classical music brilliance and inept talent on stage. Once again, the Armenian ensemble, under the baton of Founding Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Sergey Smbatya, unleashed their musical wonder through a wide range of wind to percussion and string instruments.
Ochsner back to the podium

The music genius Erik Ochsner returned on stage to conduct the Frozen concert. Known for his energy, precision, and deep musical sensitivity, Ochsner elevates every production he leads. This Disney concert is an added feather to his cap on his career spanning from classical to contemporary scores, with credits in over 20 major film concerts. He has guest conducted orchestras across the globe—from Tokyo and Jakarta to Dallas, Seattle, and Wellington.
Ithra in perfect harmony

That’s a wrap for Disney magic in Ithra this month. The success of the Lion King and Frozen concerts has definitely made a lasting impact on the film and music enthusiasts in the Eastern Province. Locals and expats, as well as individuals and families, were united in Ithra to share their love for the Disney classics. Ithra has been actively engaging their patrons in such meaningful creative pursuits, and they consistently up their game in the entertainment industry. All eyes on Ithra as the public awaits what’s next!
