Eid al-Adha, also known as the “Greater Eid,” is one of the two big celebrations in Islam, right alongside Eid al-Fitr. It takes place on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijja, the final month of the Islamic calendar, and the festivities stretch over four days, including the Tashreeq days that follow.

At its heart, Eid al-Adha commemorates Prophet Abraham’s devotion to God, marked by his willingness to sacrifice his son—a story where either Ishmael or Isaac is honored as the “Sacrifice of God,” depending on the tradition. Muslims kick off the day with a special Eid prayer, followed by the qurban, or ritual sacrifice of a sheep (or other livestock), as a symbolic act of faith and charity.

Meanwhile, for pilgrims on Hajj, the day is packed with spiritual milestones—from the tawaf (circling the Kaaba) to the sa’ee (walking between Safa and Marwah), and the powerful ritual of stoning the Devil. It’s a time of faith, reflection, and celebration shared with family, friends, and communities around the world.
