They say change is the way forward but old memories sometimes make us refuse to believe that. Many places in Jeddah that are a backdrop to our childhood memories have closed down or shifted from where they used to be (and where we are used to seeing them).
If you lived in Jeddah in the 80’s and 90’s, then you’ll enjoy this walk down memory lane.

Nandos
Oh, the food was so good. Don’t know why it closed down, but sure need it to reopen soon.

Watani Superstores
It defined what a hypermarket is for us.

Oasis Mall
Even today’s malls can’t match the elegance that this mall evokes.

The Airplane Roundabout
Wasn’t it cool (especially for the little ones) to see a full-sized airplane right in the middle of the street?

Jeddah Zoo
Though small in size, they did have a decent number of animals inside.

Musk Lake
Though it is not the most popular on this list, those who have visited will remember the lovely scenery, best enjoyed with the car windows up of course (the stench sometimes was too much to handle.) After remembering that smell, maybe this change was good after all.

The Old Ikea
We’re happy to have a brand new one, but the old Ikea’s interiors just somehow felt better.

Bullwinkle’s
It defined family entertainment centers for us back then. This was way before Chuck E. Cheese’s and the likes came to town.
The Walkalator In Elysee Printemps
It was one of a kind. The mall wasn’t much of a success back then as well.

Safeway
It was not like we were addicted to it, it was just that some of the imported products they had were simply outstanding.

The huge waves near Jeddah’s corniche.
Boulders were placed to break the waves before they reach the shoreline. So today no matter how strong the current is, only low tide-like waves reach us.
