Stop drifting through residential areas!

At an almost clockwork like precision every weekend at around 1 a.m. I hear the sound of screeching tires from my bedroom window. I want to believe it’s just video games, but unfortunately it isn’t so.

Now before you flip the page, bear with us. We promise we’ll deliver our usual brand of humor after we get real.

According to the World Health Organization, an accident occurs every second in Saudi Arabia. We acknowledge that not all of these are due to illegal street racing or drifting, but those of us living around Turki Al Awwal and Thumamah will attest that it isn’t limited to rural areas. If you feel the need for speed, you don’t have to Fast & Furious your way through residential areas.

Now that the boring preachy part is through, we can get back to doing what we do best: giving you options.

Dirab Motor Park, about a 30-minute drive from Riyadh’s center, provides motor heads a chance to put the pedal to the metal. It has a designated drag racing strip, a drifting and rallies area as well as an off-road trail that will give your suspension a run for its money. They don’t have age or gender restrictions, but much like a roller coaster they do have a height/build one. Here are some things to do at Dirab.

Take a Course

The Mahara Prodrift Academy teaches three different stages for drifters from rookie to pro with awarded instructors who have patience worthy of a saint. The rookie stage can be taken in levels or an extensive one-on-one. They even teach basic defensive driving, which instructs drivers on how to react in case of emergencies (i.e. accidents, slippery roads, flat tire, etc.)

Proper drifting requires training and cars that are equipped for it, so Dirab is your go-to. Did you know that seatbelts and seats have an expiration date to ensure maximum safety?

Simulators

If starting out behind the wheel of a 400hp vehicle terrifies you, you are not alone my friend. Test the waters by drifting in Prodrift’s simulator. It will allow you to test drive your drifting techniques without causing irreparable damage to a car. As a treat, the academy’s entire fleet is available for you to try within the simulator.

Try Trikes

These motorized tricycles are the perfect step up from the simulators. The trikes have smooth back tires to lessen the grip, which allow you to drift when taking the slightest turn. They are a great way to dip your feet in drifting and test out whether you can embrace the skid.

Off-road Adventure

Try getting into one of their trucks for an off-roading experience you have probably never had. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to drive up/down stairs, get ready to have your dreams come true.

Tent It

Dirab also has a campsite set up overlooking the canyon where visitors can hang back around a fire and enjoy the view. A pot of coffee, some dates and fire are the perfect companions after a day at the park.
