Type of People at Orientation

Orientation week; when students and the uni get to know each other.

All kinds of things happen during orientation – students get proper access to everything and the university feels a bit less stressed out. But, we also come across all kinds of people.

  • The Know-it-Allgiphy
This student knows more about what’s going to happen than the instructors, and they are ready to talk your ear off about their life and aspirations.
  • The Question Markgiphy-1
They’re absolutely clueless about what orientation is and why they’re attending it. They take a while to adjust and are always asking questions.
  • The Wearygiphy-2
They are tired and don’t have energy for college, but they’re here anyway. They’re constantly looking at the time, waiting for the day to get over so they can go home.
  • The Cool Kidgiphy-3
They consider themselves too cool to attend orientation. They’ve far better things to do like rap to Sean Paul or try and be the next Beyoncé, as long as they don’t have to come to monotonous orientation lectures.
  • The Encyclopediagiphy-4
These are juniors or seniors whose years of experience have made them experts on the university. They love to help but time is sometimes very precious for these busy bees.
  • The Twinsgiphy-5
They’re the ones you have a lot in common with and who will end up being one of your closest friends. It’s awkward at first but you’re both glad to hang out.
  • The Sweaty Handsgiphy-6
These students are anxious about everything and they’re super quiet. They probably won’t go further than a ‘hi’ unless they already know you. Be nice to them.

Working from Home, Why is it Popular?

A recent employment trend in the Kingdom and beyond is working from home.

Working from home is less rigid compared to a professional working environment; this makes it a widespread and beneficial option for those who don’t wish to work under constant stress.

It’s usually not the warm cup of tea you may imagine. Here are some tips to get your best work done from home:

  1. Start Early

If you don’t wake up with the same dread you would have to get to work, then it is unlikely you’ll get any work done until the late hours of the day.

  1. Schedule Yourself

The comfort of your bed should not distract you from following a strict schedule and getting important tasks done in time.

  1. Choose a ‘work’ spot.

Assign an area or desk as your workspace. This will help you to stay focused and improves your efficiency.

  1. Commit to more.

Whether you are home or sitting at a nearby coffee shop, you have time so commit to doing more than just what is entitled for the day.

  1. Stay Connected

Make sure you’re well connected with the team no matter where you are.

  1. Dress Professionally.

Getting in comfortable professional clothes can help channel your ‘professional energy’. Put on a smart shirt and slacks, or just wear something clean and ironed.

  1. Visit the headquarters.

Occasionally visit the office (if you’re not a home-based business) to meet up with your colleagues and celebrate special occasions.

Secure Your Number with SIM Authentication

The introduction of SIM authentication a few months ago by the Ministry of Interior (Abshir) created a loud buzz across the Kingdom. All citizens are obligated to register their fingerprints to secure their numbers against theft and to also make the system safer.

Earlier, anyone who needed to register had to go to their respective SIM provider stores such as Zain, STC or Mobily and wait in queues to register their fingerprints to make sure their SIMs, whether post-paid or pre-paid, were authenticated.

However, Abshir recently initiated Wthiq, their online registration service, which has further eased the procedure without making a tiring trip to the provider stores around the city.
The new procedure comprises of a few steps that are as follows:

Anyone who needs to register his or her number must first have an Abshir account and log on to it. After logging in, locate the “E-Services” tab and from the drop down menu choose “Wthiq SIM card Authentication”.

The new page then shows a set of instructions to be followed, after reading them, you can click on the “Authenticate Voice or Data SIM” to proceed further. This will take you to the second page where you are required to choose your service provider and fill in your personal details to complete the step. After thoroughly reading the terms and conditions, click the accept button and move on to “Send the Authentication Request”.

The resulting page requires a confirmation of the authenticating request of the SIM, after which an SMS is sent to your number with a verification code. Enter the verification code on the computer screen and click on “Send Authentication Request”.

The last screen will then inform you that a message has been sent to your selected service provider and thereby the company will notify you when the authentication has been completed. To check the authentication, you can go to the very first screen and click on
“ Check Authentication Status”.

The system is created to identify the person with their SIM cards and even though the procedure has been made easier, all citizens have only 2 weeks to register their numbers, if not completed their numbers will be permanently blocked.
