In a stunning conclusion to the 2024 Women’s Futsal Tournament, Al-Shabab FC claimed their second women’s futsal title after an exciting 25-match competition that saw 339 goals scored. The final match, held on Monday, was a goal-fest, with Al-Shabab defeating Najmat Jeddah 22-2.
The second edition of the tournament featured 18 of Saudi Arabia’s top women’s futsal teams. The event aims to boost the growth of women’s futsal in the Kingdom, and it did not disappoint. Al-Shabab’s impressive victory in the final added to their domestic honors, showcasing their dominance in the sport.
This tournament is part of a broader initiative to inspire the development of women’s futsal in Saudi Arabia. The Saudi National Women’s Futsal team is scheduled to meet later this month in Bosnia for a training camp until June 15, furthering their preparation and skill development.
Aalia Al-Rasheed, head of the Women’s Football Department at the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF), praised the talent on display throughout the tournament. “The Women’s Futsal Tournament has demonstrated the incredible talent that lies within the women’s game in Saudi Arabia. The skill on display has been remarkable, and we congratulate all clubs for their participation in the competition,” she said.
She also mentioned, “the unprecedented growth we are seeing in the women’s game across all levels is exciting, and we look forward to seeing how this supports our national program to continue to develop in the coming months.”
Al-Shabab FC’s recent success builds on their earlier win in the SAFF Women’s (U-17) Tournament. They won the title with a 1-0 victory over Al Hilal in a memorable final at the Noon Academy Stadium in Jeddah.
The final match was attended by notable figures such as Adwa AlArifi, Assistant Minister for Sport Affairs, Lamia Bahian, Vice President of SAFF, and Aalia AlRasheed. Their presence underscores the growing support for women’s sports in Saudi Arabia.
