“A Head Full of Dreams” by Coldplay – The Feel Good Album of the Year

“A Head Full of Dreams” by Coldplay – The Feel Good Album of the Year

“A Head Full of Dreams” is the fairly new album that was released by Coldplay end of 2015. Now you may ask why we’re doing an album review 4 months later, but the fact of the matter is: “A Head Full of Dreams” is the perfect album for the Spring season.

It is a “feel good”, energetic album with songs that mostly have positive messages, making it the perfect set of songs for this month. Maybe it will even give you the motivation to get through exam season and help you look at the bigger picture.

Like the name suggests, “A Head Full of Dreams” is for dreamers, and if you’re not a dreamer yet, you are sure to become one.

Let’s have a look at the songs:

Title Song - A Head Full of Dreams
The start of the album sets the whole vibe for the album. From the music, to the lyrics, and the overall message, you know that this album is definitely more energetic and positive than their previous album “Ghost Stories.” It even mentions words such as “Birds” and “Miracles”, which are names of other songs on the album.
Birds

This particular track starts off with drums then adds the standard Coldplay piano effect. A slower start, which gains more momentum in the chorus, “Birds” is a more call-to-action song.

Hymn for the Weekend ft. Beyonce
A favorite of many, “Hymn For the Weekend” is a brilliant track, which is truly loved for its composition and the additional featured vocals by Beyonce. This song was shot in India, showing celebrations of the Holi Festival, which enhances the concept of the entire album and its colorful artwork and lyrics.

Everglow
A slower track, “Everglow” is a beautiful ballad focusing on how it’s important to let your loved ones know how important they are to you: another positive message.
Adventure of a Lifetime
A personal favorite, “Adventure of a Lifetime” definitely is the perfect song for a feel-good, happy mood. From the lyrics, to the composition, to the peculiar monkey costume video, you can tell that Coldplay want you to enjoy the song as much as they enjoyed making it.

Fun ft. Tove Lo

Though a sadder song, “Fun” manages to end on a hopeful note as well. Band members, Martin, Buckland, Berryman and Champion want to make sure you feel hope after every song. Tove Lo’s vocals on the song are the perfect cherry on top.

Kaleidoscope

An interesting interlude of a sort on the album, “Kaleidoscope” incorporates elements of the poem “The Guesthouse” written by Rumi and “Amazing grace” written by John Newton and performed by Barack Obama.

Army of One

The music of this one, reinstates the fact that you can always tell when it’s a Coldplay song if you haven’t heard it before, just from the beginning. It is another “feel good” song of being with a loved one.

Amazing Day
Another dreamy track, “Amazing Day’s” vocals are what make this song interesting. Chris Martin starts off with a raspier approach then moves onto his famous chorus high notes.
Color Spectrum

An instrumental interlude, “Color Spectrum” has elements from other tracks such as “Hymn for the Weekend” and Kaleidoscope.

Up&Up
Another hopeful song, “Up&Up” definitely shows you that you can get it together and move on. The subtle beats of the song are what makes this one stand out.
Miracles – Bonus Track
Another personal favorite, “Miracles’” soft is what makes this track epic. The piano and beats are in perfect sync, giving this track its edge. It would’ve been great to witness the band work on this track in the studio.
